The village of Makambie has acute problem of accessibility to pure drinking water. They are badly in need as the present water source is very far and open or prone to contamination that has host of health hazards.

The Safer Future Youth Development Project (SFYDP) is a legally registered non-profit, non-governmental, interdenominational and local organization geared towards positively changing the lives of the deprived and marginalized population. particularly the Youth. the SFYDP is located in the Western Area of Sierra Leone and educates the youth with specific and practical skills in a Technical and Vocational Institution.
In addition, the SFYDP is operating in other developmental programmes such as the establishment and maintenance of good water and sanitation systems, such as wells and rainwater harvesting tanks, the introduction and establishment of renewable energy technologies in the country, collaboration with other organizations in promoting developmental programmes such as health promotion, life skills development, peace building
The drinking water situation in Makambie is very poor. The inhabitants fetch their drinking water at unprotected groundwater wells, streams and other open water sources. This is not even certain as most of the water sources dries up during the the dry season. A major problem of all these water sources is the water contamination causing waterborne diseases. However, the community have no access to pure and clean drinking water.

The trained pump caretakers will be responsible for the maintenance and repairs of the well.
The project works closely with the Local Government which is directly responsible for the district.
It helps in the monitoring and supervision of all the activities of the project carried in the community
Sanitation and Proper Hygiene Education will also be disseminated during the implementation exercise
Our activities will involve the training of the two pump caretakers in the community to ensure sustenance.

The community will local materials and unskilled labour when ever the time arises for maintenance.
