    The Canaquil School

    On our way to visit the health clinics in the villages of Ixil, we were able to stop over and visit The Canaquil School, which has a beautiful hand washing station. Today rivaled the other days in terms of poor quality of roads and driving conditions. These are very difficult areas to get to and thus very important places to have health centers and schools with effective hygienic practices in place

Creating and measuring long-term impact

APS has a maintenance program to assist and train school teachers and village committees in the repair and maintenance of facilities. The village recieves Q50 per child from the government to run the schools and part of these funds are used to maintain facilties.

Other Issues

Unusual and unexpected issues faced during project execution

The installation of check valves on the bathroow storage tank was not anticipated , but was included in the project at minimal cost.

The community consists of 72 households with a total of approximately 600 inhabitants. The project will be executed on the premises of the local school. In which 7 teachers educate 173 children, thereof 88 boys and 85 girls.
