Narrative

The Pulay Water Project is complete with all elements of the project installed and functioning. The project is two weeks ahead of schedule with the finish. In consultation with the village water committee and Rahesh the plan is to enclose another spring site that the village has recently purchased so as to make this water available for future needs. The village has been very cooperative and raised about Q35,000 ($5,000) during the project and with these funds made a number of improvements to their distribution system the the houses in the village. We anticipate being finished by the end of Jan. with the project.

Sustainability

Creating and measuring long-term impact

We are currently working with the village to develop a maintenance program including the new facilities.

Other Issues

Unusual and unexpected issues faced during project execution

A second phase of this project is planned provided funds can be found. During the project a study was done of the distribution system to the houses. Thefindings indicated that about 90 families were not connected to the water system. We have developed a plan and design to renovate the entire water distribution system to provide sufficient flow to all the houses for a period of 20 years utilizing the old and new springs on line in the village.

During the project the village water committee indicated that they had only given us the number of families connected to the system. In reality many young families living with parents and families not connect to the system raised the total number of families to about 350.
