The maintenance cost as per revenue model works out to $530 per year. The yearly contribution is being collected by the Water Committee. This would be used for the maintenance and for reserve funds for the replacement of spare parts and major repairs etc. in the long run after 5-7 years.
As per the previous plan, it was decided to install the electric pump in the existing bore well to lift the water. But due to small mishap the old pipes slipped and it was difficult to remove them. Therefore, it was decided drill a new bore well of 200 ft depth of 8 inch diameter. The additional cost of USD 425 (Rs. 17,000) was borne by the community. This is resulted into delay of the completion of the project.
- if the drinking water problem is identified and the work is initiated by the women , strong support and cooperation is possible from the local governance (Gram Panchyat), CBOs and men folk irrespective of village politics, groupism and bureaucratic interference
- The drudgery of the women is reduced and they have time for other and farm activities. - The implementing agency should be clear about the non-compromisable (peoples contribution, quality of work, maintenance atleast of one year in advance) and should try to achieve these through participatory methods.
