Involvement of the community

By Tanzania Mission to the Poor and Disabled (PADI) Posted on Fri 24 Apr 2009, about 17 years ago

Dear Kamara, in future I would like to advice that community contribution should be well seen in your proposal(should be valued). This will help to show very clear their contribution to the project. It helps to make them fil they are part of the project. Not only so but out siders may also see the community contribution rather than keeping silence.

Regards
Msigwa Iskaka.

Can you also add some labels and text to all the photos please?

I see 3 wells in the photos: are they all from the village? One is a shallow pit, one is covered, and the last 2 of a deep well that appears to have water.

If the last one is existing, what is the depth now? Will you be deepening it to 20m?

Any seasonality issues in water levels?

Thanks,
Rajesh

The wells seen are from the village and the shallow one is the only existing source which is about 2m deep. It is located at the swamp site.
Of course you can see it is unprotected and the water is not even pure for drinking. The other two are out of use as there is either less or no water in them.

Indeed there is seasonality in water levels in Sierra Leone. If you dig a well during the rainy season, you might reach the water table quick because the level is up due to the number of rains and when it is dry the table will go down and then the well dries up. That is why it is advisable to dig wells during the dries. If you reach the water table at that time, then you are sure of having water throughout the seasons.

Thank-you for the EXCEL budget. Would you give us the exchange rate to the US $1.00 ?

Would you send a design of the well construction and photos of a finished well with pump? Also a detail of the various expenditures for construction , training , repair parts availability etc;

Thank-you Idriss. Will this project include a storage tank for rain water as I have seen in your other projects? I am trying to relate the construction of a well site to the 70 bags of cement in the budget.

The exchange rate

The project will not include a storage tank for rain water. It is a single project for only one Water well.
For the 70bags of cement you mentioned, It will be used as follows:
-The Well Diameter is 1.8288m
-The Depth could be 20m + or - depending on the location which has to be lined with 5inches thick concrete.

Instead of posting (or emailing) the design and details, you can attach it to the application so the rest of us can also see, review, and learn.

Thanks,
Rajesh

Technical approach

I also think it would be advisable to see the technical approach. How deep, what type of well, digging, drilling etc.
Please give us some details on this. Thanks.
