In the village of Ruipathar water needed to be carried from a spring about one kilometer away for all water uses. The project that was completed in July 2008 solar panels were installed near the village so they could be guarded from theft. From the panels and controller the wire was run down the hill to a solar pump installed in an existing well. Water is now pumped to a tank in the village and then fed by gravity to two water tap stations in the center of the village. Water born diseases have been significantly reduced since the installation of this solar water pumping equipment. With excess solar power generating capacity we plan to add electric lighting in each house when pumping is not necessary. We also plan to introduce sanitation facilities in this village.
Organization Background
We have started work in the area since 1997. Our observation is that contaminated drinking water and lack of sanitation have a great influence on the health status of the peole. We have worked on providing sanitation blocks at Kutida village in the year 2008. We are also planning to provide safe drinking water at village Domi and Tembru very shortly. Various ways and sources are being tapped.
