Drop In The Bucket believes clean water is a basic human right that must be met in order to help people break the cycle of poverty.

Our mission is to build wells and sanitation systems at schools throughout sub-Saharan Africa, enabling youth to fully harness the life-changing power of an education.

Our goal is to provide schools and communities with tools they need to improve child health, increase school enrollment rates, and promote gender equality.

Drop in the Bucket is a registered international non-governmental organization that has been operating in East Africa since 2006. We work directly with underserved and marginalized communities in remote areas of Uganda and South Sudan. Our mission is to assist community development by constructing water and sanitation facilities at schools; thus enabling children, especially girls to receive an education and realize their full potential.

Organization Background

Along with our WASH initiatives, we also implement a number of capacity building programs. Our activities include projects such as the formation of water user committees/village savings and loan associations, training of health and hygiene clubs, organizing girls’ clubs and menstrual hygiene management workshops. To date, we have successfully constructed over 200 boreholes in the region, spanning the following areas - Central Equatoria State, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State and Eastern Equatorial State in the Republic of South Sudan and across North, Central and Eastern Uganda.

Along with our strong hardware (construction) component, Drop in the Bucket is also dedicated to pinpointing effective strategies for getting girls in school and keeping them there.
