Member Profile: Women Initiative for Sustainable Environemnt

WISE (formerly EMPRONET), Kaduna, Nigeria, is a grassroots NGO that promotes constructive environmental ideals through education, advocacy and project/program implementation in the areas of water and sanitation, solid waste management, pollution abatement, tree planting and related environmental concerns.

With Rural Africa water Development Project, EMPRONET carried out a Rapid Gender Assessment "Water and Sanitation Project "(Jos) Plateau State, Nigeria. A project under the United Nations Water Habitat Programme for African Cities.

Tree Planting as a soil and water conservation measure.

Advocacy on pollution especially water pollution by industries in Kaduna State.

Several Awareness and Enmlightenment Programmes on Water , Sanitation and Hygiene for women in collaboration with women groups and primary schools in Kaduna State e.g. Attarkar Women Association of Nigeria and National Council for Women Societies, Kaduna Chapter, Customs Nursery and Primary School amongst others.

Ongoing plan to supply water filteration systems to 700 rural households in Kaduna State under the Global Women's Leadership Network. Reference: www.gwln.org

Community mobilization and technical support to Love and Compassion, Kaduna , Nigeria on a Borehole Drilling Project in Marsa and Anfana Diostricts of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State

Consultancy Services provided to Landmarks Surveys, Kaduna on E.I.A for Dam Projects and an ongoing Punblic Water Systems Project in Kaduna State.

Women Initiative for Sustainable Environment (WISE), formerly Environmental Management and Protection Network (EMPRONET), operates from Kaduna, Nigeria.

Activities include organizing workshops and seminars, dissemination of environmental information through the print and electronic media, environmental researches, community mobilization, networking and partnership; resource conservation.
