Installation of Rope Pump for safe drinking water and improved health

Humana People to People India got the funds from Peer Water Exchange to install 10 Rope pumps in Cuddalore district of TN, India.
Project started it activities in the month of September and conducted series of meetings with the community members; with support from community members and water technician’s the project identified the best locations to install the rope pumps.
Project conducted meetings and got letters from the community to put a rope pump in their locality.
As HUMANA is already working in the area invited the community members to see one of the model of rope installed at project site. Community members saw the rope pump and learn how it works, how it will be useful for them in the future, the project discussed with them and made them understand the value of rope pump. And the community members experience it practically. The village Development committee decide and gave request letter for installing Rope pump in the village. Then we had meeting with VDC (village Development committee) and youth clubs around five villages. We discussed about location. They are......

Produce rope pumps
We find one local workshop Uruvaiyaru in Pondicherry. We gave training for that workshop people. Then they produce 10 rope pumps.

Training of youth club how to maintains and Installation
We invite youth clubs members from five villages. And the resource person gave training for five youth clubs members (2 from each group) at Ecosan service centre. 10 Youth learnt how to repair and operate rope pump.
Feedback for village people
The Rope pump is new technology for us; first we didn’t believe to get water from this rope pump. But now we are using this rope pump, it’s very useful us, through the Rope pump we are getting more water compare than hand pump. If it has a problem we can manage it. This is low cost technology, we are happy to have the rope pump. It is easy to operate and maintain.
