Clean Water, Hygiene Education and Teacher Training for homes and schools in Simonette, Haiti

Narrative

The rural community of Simonette, Haiti, located one hour north of Port-au-Prince, is a community that lacks reliable access to clean drinking water. Poverty underlies every aspect of life in Simonette, as it does most villages in Haiti. There are parents who can’t afford to feed or clothe their children, children who have no parents, elderly who suffer the consequences of a lifetime of undernourishment, young mothers who lack sufficient nutrition to nurse their babies, and babies who have been abandoned by their mothers because they are simply unable to care for them.The project objectives are to reduce the incidence of waterborne disease and to improve health and well-being of the community through sustainable clean water and the adoption of safe hygiene practices.
