Narrative

Over the last two years ACI has been working to train a local staff of individuals who can construct high quality RWH systems autonomously to the rest of the project. Once the funding and materials have been provided and delivered the local crew takes over. Here at Metamaywa primary the local crew has been put to its first true test and they preformed with flying colors. A complete and quality constructed RWH system was installed in three days, using both specially trained individuals and individuals representing ACI within the school.

Creating and measuring long-term impact

Because of the initial quality of the construction sustainability is not a problem to achieve. We expect at least ten years of use from the system, no ACI constructed system has reached this age so we are not able to provide actual data on the quality over time. Reapplication of silicone will be the only expected maintenance issue and occurs only when the original silicone has worn away.

This number includes all staff at the school along with the ACI staff present on a regular basis at the school.

All children present at school on a given day. The water from the RWH harvesting system is now used to feed the Bio-Sand filters already installed at the school. Increasing access as well as reducing time spent retrieving water.

This number represents the two individuals who represent ACI and are present at the school on a regular basis. Because of the increased visibility of the program at the school interest in the community has gone up. The entrepreneurial aspects of the Bio-Sand filter program are immediately improved. We have seen a boost in filter sales in other schools in the same region and expect the same for this school.
