Sustainability
Creating and measuring long-term impact
Revenue raised from the water usage is used to maintain and chlorinate the system.
All the people using the water from the tank pay a small contribution every month. That collected money is used to solve possible problems with the tank. For instance: To purchase spare parts for replacement of old and broken parts. The committee administers the money and stake it expediently. A handful of people of the community, chosen as the committee, got a training, initiated from Safer FutureÂ, where they learned how to handle the operation of the tank and how to maintain and repair it.
Other Issues
Unusual and unexpected issues faced during project execution
This completes the pilot project for implementing RWHT by Safer Future.
Committees were formed to take over the responsibility of maintaining the smooth operation of the water supply systems. This includes decisions not only for maintenance but repairs of the tank in general.
Trainings in Health Care and Nutrition, offered by Safer FutureÂ, helped improve the living conditions in rural communities, too.
Learnings
Knowledge of project and process for sharing
It is always better to get funding earlier so that the construction could be completed before the rains start in early May.
Impact
People Getting Safe Drinking Water: 1700
200 students of the institution
about 1500 indirect beneficiaries within the community
School Children Getting Water: 200
People Getting Other Benefits: 15
Workers who did the construction work and got paid.
Maintenance/Operating Costs Annual, in US$: $20
